Creator: Hana-kikko (Flower Tortoiseshell) sashiko collective.

This unique sashiko wall hanging composed of 28 panels in a range of traditional patterns and motifs, hand-drafted and stitched in white cotton thread on indigo-dyed cotton fabric.  

Dimensions: 93 cm (36 inches) wide x 152 cm (59 inches) long. Each square is 15 cm x 15 cm (6” x 6”).

Hana-kikko (Flower Tortoiseshell) is a sashiko collective based in Ibarakai prefecture Japan. The group has been meeting since 2014 under the guidance of Chiyoko Nakazaki, and working under this name since 2021 . This is one of the group's collaborative wall-hangings. Since it is entirely handmade and the work of more than person, there are variations in stitch size, and draft lines are faintly visible close up in some panels. Note that the hanging pole is not included in the price.

1: Square measure, cross stitch, key fret, eight-lobed hemp leaf.
2: Linked Yoshiwara, plover crest, sword shape in linked square well curbs, mountain path variation.
3: Eight-lobed hemp leaf, folding fan variation, linked semi-circles, wickerwork.
4: Japanese primrose, parallel cross stitch, geometric flower, scale weights.　
​5: Woven basket, hemp leaf, cross stitch, square measure.
6: Angled seven treasures, segmented tortoiseshell, pine bark diamond, woven cross diamond.
7: Linked weights, layered linked measuring  boxes, eight-lobed hemp leaf, rounded Bishamon.
